Why you need to smile to the world.
Do you know the metaphor of the two dogs walking into the monastery of a thousand mirrors? This is one of the most inspiring metaphors to me. It has shown me how often our bad habits and traits reflect back on us from our environment and fellow human beings. But mostly we don’t take the responsibility for our bad actions, because we don’t see ourselves as the source.
Hundreds of years ago a dog visited the monastery of a thousand mirrors. After weeks of traveling he finally reached the monastery. He climbed up the stairs, went through the door and entered the monastery of a thousand mirrors. He looked into the mirrors and saw a thousand scared dogs. He was afraid and snarled. The one thousand dogs snarled back at him. He put his tail between his legs and left the monastery with the awareness that the world is full of snarling dogs. He never went back to the monastery.
Some weeks later another dog visited the monastery. He also climbed up the stairs, went through the door, looked at the mirrors and saw one thousand friendly dogs. He left the monastery with the awareness that the world is full of friendly dogs.
To know that the world is only a reflection of how I look into it was and still is one of my biggest life changing moments. When you look at the world with fear, you will see it as a scary place. I am not afraid anymore to look in the mirror, only because I smile now. Often life is so simple, so let’s leave it simple and be good.
